Finally! Tiff is Back in Action and To Work

I apologize for it being so quiet here in the dream buildher community. A lot has been happening in my personal and professional life, the biggest one being that I got married a few weeks ago and my new husband and I have been riding the newlywed high.

I also started working again as an insurance associate and joined alongside Bill's practice. I failed the last exam I took by one question and honestly, with just a couple of weeks before the wedding, and with 14 months of studying and test taking......I told Bill I needed to change direction for a bit.

I could no longer handle the stress. It was like my brain could no longer retain any more information, no matter how much I studied. If I didn't do something different soon, I was considering walking away from the whole career. That was how burnt out I was. Plus, all the details that needed to be taken care of prior to the wedding fell on my shoulders (not complaining about that. I was just best suited to take care of them). Overwhelmed does not sufficiently cover how I felt last month.

Thankfully, Bill could literally see the toll everything was taking on me physically, mentally and emotionally. Once I came clean with how I was really feeling (which was super important for me to do....he was not going to force me to do anything I didn't want to do and he also wanted me to recognize where I was and ask for help.....something I have a really hard time doing), he came up with a solution.

I'm a working woman again and I am happier. Granted, I am only a couple of weeks into everything, and I don't have the same flexibility as someone who has been doing this for 18 years, but I will eventually get there. I am also working on a really fun project that will be shared soon, and it is a dream come true for me. I can't wait to tell you all about it!

Some good advice for those of you who are in similar positions. As you head back to work after some time off, here are some key points I want you to remember.

  1. Start With Why: Why are you doing this? Who is all of this for? It is okay to say outloud that you want to make more money so your family is comfortable. Maybe it is to save more for your children's education? If not for family, who are you hoping to serve? What is it that drives you and helps you to leap out of bed each day to head in to work? Have a solid why. Post that why in your office or create a dream board. When things get hard, and they will, look to your reasons.

  2. Be Patient: Chances are, if you have taken some time off from the workplace, there is going to be an adjustment period. New routines that not only you will have to acclimate to, but the rest of your family as well. If you are starting to build your own business, it won't look like a typical 9-5. Things are not going to go super smooth and you won't make a gazillion dollars just because you posted on your socials. Allow yourself the time it takes to grow, learn, work and build. Stay consistent, trust the process, pray and you will get to where you want to be.

  3. Ask For Help: I think this is a really important tip, and one I still struggle with. If you have a partner/spouse, please ask for their help and be specific about what you need from them during this time. If you need them to cook dinner more in the evenings while you work, ask them. If you are a single woman, find community and ask your family. You don't have to do this alone. I know that sometimes, it is easier to do it alone because then you don't feel like a burden to others, but please don't. Take it from someone who has the most difficult time stating what she needs. You have people who love you and are there for you. Ask for help!

Also, don't forget to have fun. Dream big. Get excited. Work. Make time for yourself and for friends and loved ones. We really do have just one life to live. We get one shot. I know personally for me, I want to live out the purpose I believe God placed in my heart so many years ago: to serve and encourage women. He has allowed me to do this in different ways and careers, and even now, I get to do it. That thrills me and I am eager to see what God has in store for the future.

Rooting you on!
