Exhausted From DIY When It Comes to Your Business, Career and Life? There Is a Better Way

Raise your hand if you are exhausted by trying to create your dream business, career or life by DIYing it?

I am raising my hand over here, as well.

Listen, I will be the first one to tell you that I desire to have something of my own. I want my words to tell stories and capture the attention of women to help them live out their best days and create a life they love. I want more money in the hands of women because I really do believe that when women have money, it is good for society.

I also believe that a woman should embrace her independence and free spirit and inner beauty and strength. To not rely on a man to feed her (because can also have the power to starve you, and we are not about that)!

I also adore fashion, beauty, and love. I am a sucker for some romance. Oh and food. Lots of food.

However, for the last year, while also studying for exams in order to further my career, I have been working to build a community and resource for women over 40 who dream and do. I had been trying to do it on my own without any help, without investing any real money or time into education (because I am in school enough, good Lord!) and how to build a brand.

So I had a CTJ (come to Jesus for all of you now familiar with the acronym) with myself and realized, this whole DIY mess of trying to figure out everything by myself was putting me on the fastest path to burnout and stress. I just don't need any more of either.

If you are currently on the never ending hamster wheel of diying it and you feel like it just is not working for you, here are a couple of things I have done and a few suggestions that are out there that may prove incredibly valuable for you, depending on where you are and what you need.

  1. I purchased a digital branding course. I have actually purchased two, but the second one I purchased is more in line with what I want to promote and honestly, it is a bit easier to get through. Why would a person who has been in the online space for over 15 years buy a digital marketing course? What new things could she possibly learn? It turns out, a lot. The social media and online business game has changed a bit since I started my first direct sales business back in 2011. I really needed to update my understanding on how to brand, focus on a niche (in the past, I would just market to women in general. I am now I bit more specific), email marketing, faceless marketing, and more. It has been a really valuable investment for me personally and for my message to women over 40. This course also provides Master Resell Rights, which means that you are able to resell the course and receive 100% profit. After going through it yourself, and you believe it would be valuable to your own audience, definitely share it with your people.

  2. Picture and video taking content is NOT my strength. Since I am all about delegating, I decided to invest in a Styled Stock Society Membership. This saves me SO MUCH TIME from having to create my own photos or scroll through my own photo library to find appropriate content to go with my messaging. I use their videos as well in my reels (with the occasional personal videos I post in my stories that show my face). I want my social media feed to look more polished, while my stories I consider my living room. Y'all are invited. Having readily made and beautiful visuals is a time saver and worth the money. SSS is having a sale currently for 30% off their memberships (ends June 15!). You can see some of the photos and videos I have shared on my Insta (@dreambuildher). They offer free photo downloads as well, so you can try before you buy! I love that!

  3. I listen to podcasts and read books on particular subjects. I do my research and I pay attention to trends and the issues that matter to the niche I am speaking to. I want to help solve problems and I want to be a space where women over 40 feel welcome and heard. (I dream about hosting a Dreambuildher retreat/conference in the future. How awesome would that be?!) I just received the book, Comeback Careers and I think it would be a great book club read.

The biggest takeaway that I have received over this last year is to delegate what I am not as great at (like photo/content creation), invest in my education and grow my skill set, and spend the extra spaces of time that I have incorporated for this doing what I am good at. I am a writer and a teacher and an encourager. So, naturally, those things should take up some considerable time.

For you, it might look very different. What is it that you are trying to achiever for your audience? Who are you looking to serve? What problems are you seeing, and what questions can you answer? How can your message help your specific audience. And most importantly, how do you get off the hamster wheel of trying to do everything, just because some influencer on instagram or tik tok tells you so? I promise you, they do not do everything. You don't have to DIY it all. Assess what is important for you to be able to do on your own, the specific things that really can only and should only come from you. Resource out and delegate the rest! You will feel a whole lot better. (Like emails. Y'all. Emails/newsletters. That is next on my list. Thank God for templates).

You got this. Rooting you on!

Tiffany Rhea
